31 March 1746: During the siege of Fort William, Major Caroline Frederick Scott led 150 men out from the fort to attack the Jacobite siege battery at the Craigs. Scott’s men took the position and seized three 4-pounders, which had been captured by the Jacobites at the Battle of Prestonpans, and a furnace used to make hot shot.¹

31 March 1746: From Aberdeen, the Duke of Cumberland reported to the Duke of Newcastle that because of the recent weather the level of the River Spey was till too high to cross over and that his march north towards Inverness would likely be delayed by a week.²

31 March 1746: The Duke of Atholl’s gardener brought news to Dunkeld for Prince Frederick and Major-General John Lindsay, Earl of Crawford regarding the dire situation facing Lieutenant-Colonel Sir Andrew Agnew’s besieged garrison at Blair Castle. Crawford would set off for Blair the following day.³
