17 March 1746: A Jacobite force under Lord George Murray began the siege of Blair Castle. Blair was the seat of Lord George’s pro-Hanoverian brother, James Murray, 2nd Duke of Atholl. Holding the castle against the Jacobites was Lieutenant-Colonel Sir Andrew Agnew of the Royal Scots Fusiliers.
