14 March

George Wade

14 March 1746: Lord George Murray with the Jacobite Atholl Brigade left Inverness and marched south heading for Atholl. The plan was to attack the government outposts in Atholl and seize Lord George’s ancestral home of Blair Castle. The move into Atholl was also likely aimed at disrupting the perceived government pincer movement on Inverness.

14 March 1748: The death of Irish-born Field Marshal George Wade. Wade is best remembered for planning and overseeing the construction of 240+ miles of military road and over 40 bridges while serving as Commander-in-Chief, Scotland (1724-1740).
