Duke of Cumberland

11 April 1746: The Duke of Cumberland marched from Banff to Portsoy, then to Cullen, where he was joined by the Earl of Albemarle’s division, which had marched from Strathbogie. The army was too large for quarters, so the infantry camped in a field outside of the town while the cavalry was billeted in the town. Cumberland established his headquarters at Cullen House, which had just recently been badly damaged by the Jacobites. He now planned the crossing of the River Spey.
