24 March 1746: After being ordered by the Duke of Cumberland to relieve Blair Castle, Prince Frederick of Hesse-Kassel and Major-General John Lindsay, Earl of Crawford marched from Perth with three regiments of Hessian foot, the Hessian hussars and St George’s dragoons to the House of Nairne.1
