15 March 1708: Comte de Forbin’s French invasion fleet carrying James Francis Edward Stuart arrived off the Moray Firth after being prevented from landing the embarked 5,000 troops in Fife on 12 March. The plan now was to land near Inverness however, bad weather prevented a landing and the fleet sailed back to Dunkirk around the north of Scotland.
