27 February 1708: James Francis Edward Stuart arrived at Dunkirk ready to embark with the invasion fleet but took ill with the measles. That same day, a Royal Navy squadron under Admiral George Byng arrived off of Dunkirk to prevent the French fleet from putting to sea.

27 February 1746: The Duke of Cumberland arrived at Aberdeen. His army would remain at Aberdeen and Strathbogie until 8 April. Cumberland dispatched Captain Caroline Frederick Scott to take command at Fort William ahead of the expected Jacobite attack there.
